Ladybirds
The babies had lots of fun using some new painting stamps this week! Developing their grasping skills, they have really enjoyed using these exciting new implements to make some beautiful prints and pictures.
Next week, we will be starting to celebrate Chinese New Year by creating some monkeys out of the babies little handprints and we’ll be making a proud display of all their wonderful monkey creations.
Butterflies
It has been a very creative week in Butterflies! We have made a wildlife corner and the children have been getting excited choosing which animal they would like to paint. We have also been having lots of fun with the alphabet and have made each letter out of their hand prints.
We will begin our Valentine’s Day preparations next week and these will include creating some lovely cards and pictures for a Valentine’s display!
Bumblebees
This week we have been exploring the weather and getting creative making clouds and rain drops with paint and collage pieces. We had lots of fun celebrating Australia Day painting the Australian flag and we read a wonderful story about a kangaroo with a poorly pouch which the children loved.
Next week brings fun in the form of preparing for Valentine’s Day! We’ll be making cards and secret presents for our mummies and daddies – shhhhh!
Dragonflies
It’s been a jolly busy and varied week in Dragonflies cooking scones, paper mache-ing balloons to create planets, making music out of natural resources, creating and decorating monkey masks for Chinese New Year and of course celebrating Australia Day with a visit from Katie the Kookaburra!
Our letter for the week next week is L and the number will be 16. The colour of the week will be gold and the shape will be stars. We will also be busy making Valentine’s treats and cards, cooking delicious carrot cake and learning some simple Chinese words for Chinese New Year!
In other news…
The wonderful Jo celebrated a very special birthday this week – happy birthday Jo!!! We hope you had a marvellous week celebrating and particularly enjoyed Tracy’s needlework tribute!
Yesterday (26th January) was Australia Day and we took the opportunity to have some fun and educate the children on life “down under”! With family in Australia and her performing background, Katie took little persuasion leading Dragonflies in the celebrations. Dressing up and playing the part of “Katie the Kookaburra” she entertained the children and got them involved in a bit of Australian culture!
Across the nursery the children were busily involved in Australia related activities throughout the day including decorating flags with different textures and materials and talking about the colours and shapes within the flag, reading stories about Wilaby Wallaby and talking about all the different animals that live in Australia and learning the song “Waltzing Matilda” which they sang with great gusto!
It may have been icy cold outside but here at Bell House it has been a cosy, busy and fun week! As always the children have enjoyed a wide variety of activities indoor and out. Some of the older ones made cress pots to grow cress at home, enjoyed an obstacle course which they proudly received certificates for completing and conducted science experiments with bicarbonate of soda and vinegar and also cola and mentos. They have also been getting creative making monkey masks for upcoming Chinese New Year, creating cloud dough and making their own pizzas for tea – yummy!

From Monday this week (11th) until February 26th Surrey County Council are working on repairing and maintaining our lovely Godalming High Street. They will be working on the cobbles, speed ramps and also the pavements to make it a better and safer road to travel down and there are diversions in place whilst this happens. You are still able to access Bell House on foot or by car and our car park is still open however the normal route around the town centre has changed.

Right now we couldn’t think of a better use for empty toilet rolls and with the country Star Wars crazy at the moment we thought we should join in the fun. We have found the perfect little crafty project from Hello Wonderful if you’re stuck with what to do on a rainy January day with the kids! Not the quickest of projects, but endless enjoyment making these incredible characters and hours of fun playing with the final creations! We think Darth Vader is the best…

We love this idea from A Little Pinch of Perfect using old soap dispensers, water, glue and food colouring! Such a simple, fun and unique way for children to explore colour, texture and witness the amazing transformation from cloudy foam to dry bubbles! So if you’re stuck for something to entertain the little ones on a rainy January day why not give this a go (you’ll just need to save some soap pumps up first!)
