Just a reminder to all our term-time families that this week (commencing 30th May) is half term. We hope you have a lovely week and we look forward to seeing you again for the second half of the summer term next week (commencing 6th June)
Ladybirds
In Ladybirds this week we have done lots of painting activities for our day and night display. We have had lots of messy play with crazy soap, cous cous, lentils and lots more! We have also spent plenty of time in the garden playing with the sand and the chalk board and having copious amounts of fun in the wendy house and on the whizzy slide!
We are really looking forward to get stuck in with some cooking next week and plan to makes lots of yummy baby-friendly cakes! Also high on the agenda will be messy play, water play and lots and lots of painting!
Butterflies
This week in Butterflies we have made a beautiful tree which we are all very proud of and are now starting on our Gruffalo display for the window sills. We have also made our wonderful bee ready for summer board with lots of buzzy hand print bees. Another highlight of the week has been the playdough and the children have loved squishing and moulding it. Sadly we have said a fond farewell to Emily who is off to Camp America – she will be very missed!
Next week we are looking forward to as much time in the garden as possible as well as lots of messy play, sensory fun and story time!
Bumblebees
We have a new maths table in Bumblebees this week where we have really been enjoying playing with our activity mats. We have also loved doing some construction painting – one of our favourite activities! We have also made our own playdough in various colours and flavours with a particular favourite being peppermint! We also planted our sunflowers this week and will be taking good care of them as they grow.
We are looking forward to searching for bugs in the garden next week as well as spending lots of time getting creative and stuck in in the mud kitchen!
Dragonflies
It has been a fun, active and wonderful week in Dragonflies! We have especially loved spending lots of time outside tyre painting, rock painting and playing with dinosaurs and water using the guttering in the garden. We have really enjoyed planting our own sunflowers and we can’t wait to see how tall they grow!
Next week the letter is E and the number of the week is 8. The colour will be black and the shape will be a star. We are excited about becoming chefs and making some yummy cheese straws – delicious! We are also looking forward to spending lots more time outside doing some science experiments, having splashy water play fun as well as some treasure hunting!

This week we have had lots of messy sensory play using different body parts and loving using our hands, feet and tummies! Our gorgeous babies loved getting messy and feeling the different coloured paints on their skin! We also really enjoyed our visit from Katie Sparkles – always a highlight of the week!
We will be starting our new summer displays next week, and once again looking forward to getting very messy as well as having as much fin outside as we can!
Butterflies
This week we have been busy getting to work on the beginnings of our Bee, all ready for our summer display! We also had so much fun making a dinosaur swamp with lovely brown water and lots of mud! Fantastic fun! We have also been enjoying our last full week with Emily and getting lots of cuddles in.
Next week, as well as the usual sensory, soft play and outdoor fun we will also be focussing on cooking up a treat in the kitchen! We will also be getting creative and continuing with our summer display.
Bumblebees
We have had a move around in the Bumblebee room this week to refresh the areas and enjoy a different space – we have loved exploring our new environment! We have loved focussing on the book Aliens Love Underpants this week and have even made our own aliens and pants to bring the story to life! We have also loved exploring paint with different tools such as rollers, toothbrushes and of course our very own hands!
The focus for next week will be looking at how flowers grow as well as learning about how to keep ourselves safe. We will also be getting outside as much as we can and exploring all the equipment and the plants in the garden.
Dragonflies
The focus this week in Dragonflies has been mainly on construction and we have loved making planes out of recycling and different vehicles, as well as some impressive animals, out of all sort of shapes of junk! There has been plenty of play in the new role play area which this week has been a supermarket and the children have been exploring healthy food.
Next week the letter of the week is C and K and the number is 7. The colour of the week is purple and the shape is a circle. We will be looking at what lives under the sea and creating a new display. Our maths focus will be on talking about numbers and telling the time. We will also be enhancing our construction area by making and displaying fabulous drawings of famous buildings!
It is safe to say our lovely British climate is somewhat changeable at the moment! We’d just like to take the opportunity to remind parents that we like to go outside as much as possible, come rain or shine, and therefore children need to be dressed/ protected properly. Please ensure that your child attends nursery with a named suncream that we can keep and apply as necessary as well as a named sun hat. Please also make sure your child attends nursery with suitable rain jacket and wellies on days where rain is forecast!
Ladybirds
This week in the Ladybirds room we have thrown ourselves into lots of creative activities enjoying especially the animal painting and fruit painting. We have also really enjoyed sand and water play this week and particularly loved our visit from Katie Sparkles where we danced with all of our bodies and not just our hands.
In fact, we loved the dancing so much we will be having a baby disco next week which we are really looking forward to! We will also be getting creative in the kitchen and cooking up some treats as well as plenty of physical activity with the soft play equipment!

We have particularly loved playing in the shredded paper and tried to find the letters in our names The weather has again been mostly lovely so we have spent a lot of time outside and some little ones held a woodlouse whilst we also spotted bees and butterflies in the garden! We have been playing catch in small groups and have loved singing the Hokey Cokey outside too! We have also loved making up simple stories using objects found around the Dragonflies room.
