Ladybirds
This week in Ladybirds we have spent masses of time out in the garden and we’ve also been getting creative with painting and tissue paper sticking as well as getting splashy with lots of water play. We have really enjoyed creating our memory boxes (our theme for the week) and included some lovely salt dough footprints and some pictures of the Ladybirds and their keyworkers.
Our theme next week will be numbers! We will be engaging the little ones in lots of number related activities and going on adventures, counting what we see.
Butterflies
We have really enjoyed looking at the life cycle of a butterfly this week! The Butterflies (toddlers not insects!) have made caccons, caterpillars and butterflies for our interesting, fun and pretty new display – come check it out!
Inspired by the lovely Ladybirds, we will be making memory boxes next week to fill with lots of special bits and pieces!
Bumblebees
We have been focusing on engaging all our senses this week with lots of different sensory play. The Bumblebees have also really enjoyed playing in the new role play area, a kitchen, and making lots of yummy food!
Next week we will begin making more fabulous models and will be able to take our creations home to show our mummies and daddies. We will also be getting stuck into some “circle games” in small groups such as The Farmer’s in His Den and Duck Duck Goose – it will be fun!
Dragonflies
This week we have been looking at different textures in play. The Dragonflies have also really enjoyed getting into character in our Post Office role play area! Linking with our Post Office theme, we have also been getting creative designing our own lovely postcards and stamps for our exciting new display!
Next week we are really looking forward to talking about new adventures like going on holiday and going off to school!

Next week is our “All about memories” week and we are excited! Our Ladybirds will be decorating a lovely memory box filled with lots of memories from nursery s well as keep sakes to take home.
Butterflies
We have enjoyed lots of messy play this week. In particular the Butterflies enjoyed mucky mud play, messy hand painting as well as flour play. We also had such a great time and thoroughly loved our mini beast day on Friday!
Next week we are really looking forward to getting stuck into some serious den building! As well as this, we will also be focussing on getting expressive with singing songs and dancing to music.
Bumblebees
This week we have really enjoyed finishing off our out-of-this-world space display! The Bumblebees have also been getting creative and making various wonderful pieces of a new board which we are calling “A Bugs Life”. Watch this space over the next week…
As well as the usual developmental play, we will be having a storing focus on mark making next week and will be using a variety of tools and materials to engage the children as much as possible and explore the different result we get from using these.
Dragonflies
This week we have really loved learning about the planets in our solar system. We have been making planets developing our fine motor skills – drawing round a plate as well as using scissors to cut around our planet shape. We have also been exploring different roles and occupations and in particular this week, that of the Post Office. We had a fabulous day on Friday dressing up for Mini-Beast Day and going on a brilliant bug hunt!
Next week we are continuing our bug theme and will be getting involved in lots of bug related activities including creating a beautiful new bug display. Please check out our art gallery where the children choose, hang up and display their own work for all to see!
Ladybirds
This week in Ladybirds our theme of the week was happy holidays! We have really enjoyed sunshine sticking, making sand pictures, splashing about with our water beach play and we especially loved having our own baby beach party! Also this week, the little ones have got really engaged with dabber painting and had lots and lots of garden play.
Next week our theme will be colours and we are looking forward to multi coloured messy play in the sensory trays as well as lots of painting different coloured things in real life, like different fruit. We are also especially looking forward to rainbow coloured rice play – the babies should love it!
Butterflies
This week we have had fun and engaged with learning about numbers and letters. We have created a fab new number display board using fun animals. We have also been exploring colour using lovely fresh and natural (not plastic toy) food.
Next week we will be exploring the outdoor area and learning about nature in summer time. We are hoping to find some little creatures as well as looking at the plants in the garden.
Bumblebees
This week we have been very busy putting up our super bus display and the children have already begun working on our new space display for next week. The Bumblebees especially loved playing with the pink gloop this week – lovely sensory stuff! We have had lots of little visitors this week; two frogs, three spiders and some teeny woodlouse!
We are really looking forward to exploring space with all our friends next week!
Dragonflies
This week we have been talking about our families and drawing them for our new display. It has been a lovely activity and valuable learning about the different families we all have. We have also been looking at sensory development and have been bringing messy play into our activities to continue exploring various textures and smells.
Next week the letter is X, number is 21, colour is yellow and shape is circle. We will be focusing on leanring all about minibeasts and discovering more about our lovely stick insects we have here in Dragonflies.
