Ladybirds
This week in Ladybirds our theme of the week has been Let’s Go To The Beach! We have really enjoyed making tissue paper beach balls, playing with balls in water play and making a mini beach display. We have also been outside in the garden making sandcastles and playing on the slide.
Next week in Ladybirds our theme of the week is Nursery Rhymes where we are looking forward to getting stuck into Twinkle Twinkle Little Star painting, Baa Baa Black Sheep collage!
Butterflies
This week in Butterflies we have been getting involved in lots of arts and crafts and looking at different textures. We have also been making decorations for our Father’s Day Board. The Butterflies have also loved being in the garden a lot this week, enjoying the warm sunshine.
Next week we will be focussing on animals!
Bumblebees
This week we are focussing on summer, especially with the lovely weather we have had. We have played outside continuously and had a bug hunt during which we found some very interesting bugs! Little Preschool we have been working on number matching and building different 3D shapes using magnets.
Dragonflies
The letter of the week was R and the number 10, colour grey and shape triangle.
This week in Dragonflies we have been doing lots of activities about dinosaurs. We especially loved making dinosaur footprints by painting our feet green and stomping around on paper! We have also made dinosaurs in our junk modelling sessions and enjoyed stories read to us about dinosaurs and their adventures. During key person time we have talked about our emotions and different time that we feel these emotions and how our faces look.
Next week we will be having some half term fun activites.
Ladybirds
This week in Ladybirds our theme of the week has been fruit and veg! We have enjoyed veg and fruit panting, fruit play with spoons and pots as well as super potato stamping. The Ladybirds have also loved the Caribbean theme with Jo’s Music Mayhem this week!
Next week our theme of the week will be Let’s Go To The Beach! We plan to make spectacular sand pictures, get stuck into pompom painting for ice creams, have splashy fun with shell and water play as well as some super shell painting.
Butterflies
This week we have been focusing on our maths activities with puzzles, stacking cups and by singing some fabulous number songs. The brilliant Butterflies have also been really enjoying role play tea parties as well as playing shops!
Next week The Butterflies will be focusing on mark making with different foods including spaghetti, rice and different fruit and veg!
Bumblebees
The Bumblebees enjoyed lots of fun activities around the story The Tiger Who Came To Tea this week. We also had a really lovely day celebrating the Royal Wedding on Wednesday with a tea party and playing party games.
Next week we will getting stuck into lots of activities to do with super summer!
Dragonflies
The letter of the week was E, number 8, colour black and shape a star.
This week we have loved getting involved in loads of activities about the Royal Wedding, from making crowns to listening to stories all about the Royals. The photographer came this week and took some gorgeous pictures of our lovely little Dragonflies.
Next week is all about dinosaurs! Raaaaah! We will be looking at volcanoes, dino shaped treats and all sorts of other dino related fun!
In further developing the children’s school readiness we have started to introduce mini P.E. lessons in Dragonflies. This is to get the children used to dressing and undressing themselves as they will be expected to do at school for P.E. lessons. Therefore we are asking parents to please provide an extra change of suitable PE clothing to use for this purpose.
Also, can we please remind parents to provide sun cream (labelled with your child’s name) now the weather is hotter!

Dragonflies Room Leader
Ladybirds
This week we have spent masses of time out in the garden making the most of the lovely sunshine! The babies have enjoyed a walk to the library to feed the ducks! We have also created a lovely Jump Into Summer display and a Royal Wedding display board too, come and take a look!
Next week we will be having a fantastic fruit and vegetable themed week. We will be getting involved in lots of fruit and vegetable painting and stamping and some fruity sensory play!
Butterflies
This week we have been doing plenty of water play in the garden including washing our toy babies, a car wash and filling, tipping and pouring. We have also made a sensational summer board and decorated buckets and spades, shells, beach balls and star fish by painting and sticking
Next week we will be celebrating the Royal Wedding and making a kings and queens display!
Bumblebees
We have been super busy this week getting stuck into lots of activities around the story of The Hungry Caterpillar. It has been especially lovely talking and enjoying activities on this book and the children have really responded well!
Next week we will be exploring an another book week with classic story of The Tiger Who Came to Tea.
Dragonflies
The letter of the week was C and the number 7, the shape a circle and colour was purple.
This week we have had so much fun in the sun after the bank holiday playing a lot outside and keeping fresh with plenty of water play and getting in the sand doing lots of summer related activities.
Next week we will celebrate with a special party for Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding!
Ladybirds
This week has been our marvellous mini beast week! The Ladybirds have spent lots of time in the garden hunting for insects, made and decorated some beautiful Ladybirds, enjoyed mini beast sensory play and created spaghetti worms!
Next week we will be creating a Jump into Summer display (it’s nearly here!) and are planning on making the most of the sunshine with lots of fun and games outside in the garden.
Butterflies
This week we have been planting cress and next week we will be planting sunflowers! The Butterflies have had lots of different food related sensory play including jelly, angel delight and rice play! We have also had a big focus on stories this week and have been encouraging the children to choose their own favourite story books.
Bumblebees
This week we have been looking at different new books in line with our new theme of the month – books! The Bumblebees have really enjoyed doing a Gruffalo hunt as well as making Gruffalo playdough figures using Gruffalo mats. We have also been focussing on numbers matching the same ones as well as looking at shapes. The Bumblebees have also been developing their fine motor skills using pegs (good for developing strong writing fingers) Finally we have had a lot of fun using scissors to cut different materials!
Dragonflies
The letter of the week was Nn, number 6, shape a pentagon and colour orange!
This week we have been changing our room a little bit and enjoying loads of new learning opportunities! The Dragonflies have made some awesome slippery slime, made perfect playdough pizzas and got out on a wonderful walk down to the lovely river!
Next week we will be turning our role play into our very own doctor’s surgery!
