Ladybirds
This week Ladybirds have been playing with lots of things that travel. Cars, Vans, Lorries, hot air balloons, trains, buses….all to do with transport. We have had fun exploring a travel tuff tray, decorating paper planes and we also loved getting messy with a traffic light jumbo pasta painting!
Next week we will be talking and reading about our family pets. Pet themed books will be used and we will be making lots of animal noises along with making our very own pets.
Butterflies
This week our little Butterflies have been getting messy with lots of different types of painting and exploring all the different colours. With our bigger Butterflies we have been focussing on colour and size categorising, using different sized objects around the room.
Next week we will start introducing Autumn and talking about the early signs of Autumn, around us. We will also start talking about and looking at pictures of our up and coming Harvest festival.

This week in Bumblebees we have welcomed our new teachers to the room and we are getting to know each other. We have continued with the Science experiments and made slime too. We had a great time making some treasure maps and finding the treasure where X marked the spot. The treasure was whatever we wanted it to be and some of us had gold coins and some of us decided that we wanted chocolate buttons.
Next week is the up and coming season of Autumn and the early signs to look out for. Our older pre-school Bumblebees will be practising our Harvest festival songs for our up and coming Harvest festival that we are holding at the church.

Our Science experiment this week was looking at how our heart works and how exercise effects it. We looked at the importance of exercise and a good diet to help keep our heart and our bodies healthy. Transition is our current topic and we have sadly been saying goodbye to our school leavers as well and wishing them all the very best of luck for the future. Next week Vicky is back and I know she will get lots of welcome hugs from all the children. As well as this we will be beginning to settle our new Dragonflies into the room ad practising our Harvest Festival songs for our church service in September.
Ladybirds
In ladybirds this week, we have been looking at the book “Handa’s Suprise” and exploring food from around the world. We have enjoyed the texture of noodle play and have even been making our own samosas. Next week is transport week and we have lots of fun activities planned including textured track tuff trays.
This week in butterflies we have been exploring colours. From mixing our own paint to colour matching teddy bears. We have been making lots of colourful pictures for the children to to take home with them. Next week we are going to be looking at animals, exploring different tuff trays and looking through different animal books.
Bumblebees
This week in bumblebees we have been exploring under the sea world. We have been looking at what animals live in the water and how they live. The children have enjoyed drawing their sea animals and taking these pictures home. We have spent a lot of time in the garden playing with the balls and learning new ring games.

This week in dragonflies we have continued to explore our senses in science. We have looked at our sense of touch, doing experiments with ice, warm and cold water, and looking at how our fingertips felt after being immersed in each one. The children are very curious and active in their involvement. We have continued to enjoy playing in the garden with our new garden resources.
Ladybirds
Our babies have enjoyed exploring and playing with lots of different fruit and vegetables this week. They have been splashing in their own lemonade stand, decorating fruit baskets and a vegetable wash tuff tray. Next week we will be looking at Foods from Around the World. We will be making an assortment of scented play dough, coloured rice, a noodle sensory tray and baking mini samosas.
Butterflies
This week our Butterflies have been looking t the weather, as a theme. We have talked about different types of weather and made beautiful weather pictures. The ‘Book of the Week was Room on the Broom, where we created a tuff tray with all the characters. Next week will be our shape week and we will be exploring shape puzzles, sorters and matching activities.
Bumblebees
This week we have been doing obstacle courses in the garden looking at jumping, skipping, and going through, on and under objects. We also looked at the texture and sensory experience of ice and making our very own salt crystals. Next week we will be looking at different ways to paint and also flying objects!

This week Dragonflies have continued to look at Science experiments with Debbie and looked at ‘taste’ as one of our senses. Next week we will be exploring the world of food and healthy living. We are all very interested to see what we like and don’t like!
Ladybirds
This week our Ladybirds have been looking at colours. We have made rainbow rice pictures, been let loose with a free painting activity and had a primary coloured tuff tray in our room. We also made stomping good rainbow foot print pictures and had fluffy sand play to explore and enjoyed trips to our sunny garden. Next week we will be looking at fruit and we will use real fruit to make printing pictures, splash around in some messy fruit play and finish it all off by tasting different types of fruit together.
Butterflies
Our 1 year old Butterflies have had a wonderful time playing in the role play, making cups of tea and dressing up to go to a tea party with all their friends. A big social event in any 1 year olds life! Our 2 year old Butterflies have been looking at colours. Sorting, matching and colour mixing have all been looked at and they have even been picking objects up and trying to say the colour of it. Next week is the theme of ‘weather’. With our present weather in the U.K the children will be looking and feeling the different weathers outside in the garden.We will be making our own sunshine and rain pictures and exploring different temperatures using ice, warm water etc.
Bumblebees
Our little Bumbles have been exploring sensory activities about magic fairy dust and using marshmallows to build a tower. Our pre-school Bumblebees have been mini scientists this week, doing lots of experiments. We looked a colours changing in cotton wool using food colouring and jugs of water. We also built towers with marshmallows and straws to see which was the strongest tower that took the most weight. Next week we will be putting our aprons back on to look at following recipes and instructions to make that old classic, jam tarts!
Dragonflies
Our Dragonflies have had an additional activity time added to their routine that has started this week. The art of Science. Experiments have taken place to explain how volcanoes work and we have also looked at colour explosions. We had a smell test activity to explore the sense of smell, using lots of different smells including vinegar, lemon, vanilla and peppermint. Next week the Science exploration continues as our Dragonflies begin to think more about the world of Science and the wonder of it all.
Ladybirds
This week our Ladybirds have enjoyed a ‘beach time’ week, making sandcastle pictures, hand print fish and dabber painted crabs.
All this hard work has meant that the children’s art work has helped us create a brand new room display. Please do come and have a look at it!
Next week will be a colourful week with our babies getting messy and exploring a primary colour tuff tray and making a rainbow display.
Butterflies
This week in Butterflies we have been looking at the children’s holiday pictures they have sent into us and talking about their time away with their families.
We also have had a variety of activities focussing on ‘the beach’, ranging from a beach tuff tray and some lovely beach pictures. Cooking was also fun and our Butterflies have created some culinary delights to produce 5 star rated jam tarts and cheese scones.
Next week we will be looking at shapes , using puzzles, books and shape stencils to show and use with our little ones.
Bumblebees
This week has all been about texture. Our Bumblebees explored dried pasta, lentils, spaghetti, glitter, powder paints and oil. Then we cooked the pasta and talked about how the pasta had changed when we touched it. We also added all these things to water and talked about how they felt. “slippy”, “sloppy” “mushy” and “wet” were all lovely words that the our Bumblebees said. We even had time to make unseasonable mince pies that went down a treat.
Next week we will be exploring ‘emotions’ and how they make us feel inside. We will carry on looking at our Golden Rules and talking about how we use them.
We will also be exploring all the colours of the rainbow and mixing colours together to see what new colours they make.
Dragonflies
Our Dragonflies have been looking at number problems and asking our children to tell us one more and one less than a given number. We have also been looking at three letter words and practise blending the sounds together, to make words. Our Dragonflies love literacy and mathematical activities and their number and letter recognition is a much looked forward to time of the day.
Next week we will be looking at all the exotic places that our globe trotters have been to and talk about their holidays. Do feel free to bring any holiday pictures and souvenirs’ for us to discuss in our ‘show and tell’ times.
