Ladybirds
This week I Ladybirds our theme of the week was senses. We did some fun activities, making smoothies, touching different textures such as oats, lentils, flour and lentils and a lot more fun things! Next week our theme of the week is transport and St David’s day. Lots of bright Daffodils will be decorating our room. We will be painting Daffodils, and using collage to make emergency vehicles.
Butterflies
This week in Butterflies we been doing lots of art work for our new displays including flowers, spiders, using a variety of textures, to make our art area look amazing. We have also been enjoying the warmer weather and spending lots of time in the garden. Next week we are hoping that the good weather continues so that we can go on another walk, whilst also focusing on our colours for our colour themed week.
Bumblebees
This week we have welcomed our new furniture in the room and had lots of time in the garden whilst the sun had got his hat on. We have also started to learn about new colours for our new theme. Next week we will be constructing lots of 3d structures using our small and large scale blocks.

This week we have been out on a walk together which was lots of fun. We have also been using our senses to touch, smell and taste various fruit and vegetables. This the links in nicely with our healthy eating theme Next week we will be putting on our gardening aprons and planting various seed to watch them start to grow and tidying up our garden for the start of Spring.

This week we’ve created lots of lovely valentines activities including painting love heart bunting, painting our little toes to create hearts, pink spaghetti play which got very messy and cooking heart shaped biscuits! They were very yummy and the babies seemed to enjoy them! Next week we are exploring our senses through different tough trays, scented texture and taste play.

This week has been our valentines themed week, we made cards for our mummy’s and daddy’s, cooked heart shaped biscuits, valentine jelly play and scented valentines play dough. We have also had lots of creative mark making out and have been encouraging our Butterflies to talk about what they have drew, it’s been fantastic listening to there imagination! With our over two’s we took them to the smart board in Dragonflies to have fun mark making! Next week is Vehicle themed week, we will be doing many activities with all kinds of transport including painting, truck muddy tuff trays and cars in the sand!

In bumblebee’s this week we’ve continued to look at Chinese new year reading stories, Chinese tuff trays and colouring! We’ve also made some beautiful valentines cards for our mummy’s and daddy’s and talking about what valentines day is. Little bee’s made moon sand, played hop scotch and we went to the field to play ball games. Big bee’s (3+) have also learnt a story on the smartboard about Chinese new year traditions. We also looked at matching numerals and quantity. We also had great fun in a fantastic science activity using Mento’s and coke science experiment to make predictions on what reaction we might see. Next week we are having colours week! We will be looking at numbers, recognizing numbers and going on a number hunt. We will also look at another reaction, bicarb and vinegar!

In Dragonflies we have continued to do activities relating to Chinese new year. We have learnt how Chinese new year started with villagers scaring away the monster Nian, with noise light and the colour red. We have made pigs using tanagrams and made a Chinese palace from junk modelling. To celebrate valentines day the children have been making cards for their families and baked lovely heart shaped biscuits. Next week we will be looking at different foods that we eat and doing some tasting sessions!

This week we have had a fantastic time exploring Chinese New year. We looked at gold and red tissue paper play and decorated paper lanterns to hang up. Noodles were the order of the day for a sensory experience and we made yummy spring rolls to nibble on. Next week we are going to be celebrating Valentine’s day with lots of lovely activities to take part in.

This week in Butterflies we have been doing lots of Chinese New Year activities including making lanterns, fortune cookies and our own ‘Year of the pig’ biscuits! We have also begun making our Valentines cards (shhhh it’s a secret!) and also making some heart shaped arts and crafts surprises too. Next week we will continue with the Valentines activities and we will also do some more cooking, including making Valentines biscuits and chocolate rice crispies cakes.

This week in Bumblebees we have been doing lots of Chinese New Year related activities. We have made lanterns, dragon masks and messed about in noodle play. We have also read some Chinese stories. Next week we will be continuing with the Chinese New Year and getting ready for Valentine’s Day too.

This week we have been learning about other Celebrations from Around the World by looking at our books in the role play area. We have been looking at Chinese New Year by making a Dragon, fans, Pigs for the animal of the year, lanterns and flags. Next week we will be looking at Valentine’s day and using some of our body parts to make pictures too.
