Building the foundations for the next steps…
The children attend our Dragonflies pre-school room when they turn 3 years until they take the last big step into school. The aim of the room is to encourage independence and confidence so that the children can move forward and blossom in their learning and development.
The large spacious room opens up into the secure garden which allows for the children to be able to free flow between the room and the garden. The children take part in child initiated play and key group planned activities, as well as Letters and Sounds activities which are the first building stones to learning to read. The room is split into areas that encourage mark making, maths, understanding the world, construction and creative pursuit’s e.g role play, painting and exploring malleable materials.
The room also has the added bonus of having its own interactive whiteboard which the children use for a range of learning experiences, from writing their names to singing along to phonic songs.
The focus in here is helping to prepare the children for school and offer them the opportunity to make a difference to nursery life by taking part in our Children’s Committee, for example recently the children helped plan, buy and grow vegetables in the garden.
