In bumblebee’s this week we’ve continued to look at Chinese new year reading stories, Chinese tuff trays and colouring! We’ve also made some beautiful valentines cards for our mummy’s and daddy’s and talking about what valentines day is. Little bee’s made moon sand, played hop scotch and we went to the field to play ball games. Big bee’s (3+) have also learnt a story on the smartboard about Chinese new year traditions. We also looked at matching numerals and quantity. We also had great fun in a fantastic science activity using Mento’s and coke science experiment to make predictions on what reaction we might see. Next week we are having colours week! We will be looking at numbers, recognizing numbers and going on a number hunt. We will also look at another reaction, bicarb and vinegar!

In Dragonflies we have continued to do activities relating to Chinese new year. We have learnt how Chinese new year started with villagers scaring away the monster Nian, with noise light and the colour red. We have made pigs using tanagrams and made a Chinese palace from junk modelling. To celebrate valentines day the children have been making cards for their families and baked lovely heart shaped biscuits. Next week we will be looking at different foods that we eat and doing some tasting sessions!
