Apologies for the slight delay in posting the weekly round up, we had a technical hitch which is now all fixed.
This is the weekly update for week ending 29th August…
Ladybirds
This week we had great fun getting creative and have made a new wall display of 5 cheeky monkeys swinging from a tree! The Ladybirds have really enjoyed getting stuck into plenty of messy play including wibbly wobbly jelly and chilly ice play, squishy angel delight and crunchy rice crispies play! We have also done been getting involved in lots of painting and we also went for a lovely walk around the river to see the ducks.
Next week we will be out and about again and going for a walk to the pet shop to get some more fish stones! We will also be making some yummy krispie cakes and spending as much time as possible in the garden.
Butterflies
We are very proud of the new wall display we have made this week using our fruit and vegetable painting. We have also been doing lots of physical activities such as exploring and developing our skills on the wooden balancing beams and clambering about on the soft play to help encourage gross motor skills. We have enjoyed exploring different medias and materials such as gluing, sticking, glitter, pipe cleaners and tissue paper – lots of sensor stimulation!
We will be focussing on colours next week by choosing particular things the children enjoy playing with and making them the focus of the exploration – this will encourage the children to learn their primary colours in an engaging way for them.
Bumblebees
This week we have been playing a lot with clay and exploring what we can make. We’ve also enjoyed matching numbers and shapes on the new train sheets we made with great success. The Bumblebees have picked “Lucy Loves Horses” as our book of the month as we love reading it. We’ve made lots of horsey things and talked about what we love – it’s been lovely.
Next week we can’t wait to explore the bug hotel using magnifying glasses and seeing what creepy crawlies we can find! We are also going to explore painting techniques through free painting and are looking forward to the experience and the results!
Dragonflies
We have had such a lovely week in Dragonflies with lots of summer fun activities – bucket loads of water play in the garden, watering our plants and watching our tomatoes grow. We have had super fun and skilful egg and spoon races and an exciting bug hunt using magnifying glasses to find the bugs.
Next week the letter is F and the number is 17. The colour is silver and the shape is square. We are looking forward to texture sticking, creating dens in the garden, and playing ring games (e.g. duck duck goose and stuck in the mud) next week. We will also be looking at our senses, smelling (mint leaves, lavender) and talking about how it smells, looks and fells. As part of looking at our senses, we will also be having lots of textured messy play, scented playdough.
